Allied Progress Reacts to the $60 Million NY AG Debt Collection Settlement

Washington D.C. (July 25th, 2019) — In the wake of today’s announcement that the New York Attorney General’s Office and the CFPB had settled with debt collectors Douglas MacKinnon, Northern Resolution Group, LLC, Enhanced Acquisitions, LLC, Delray Capital, LLC, and Mark Gray for $60 million, Allied Progress director Derek Martin released the following statement:

“Even a busted clock is right twice a day, and this settlement — based on a suit filed during the Cordray-era — means the Kraninger-CFPB is aware of what can happen when debt collectors are left unsupervised. Yet despite this knowledge, the Bureau continues to push a proposal that allows debt collectors to contact consumers with unlimited texts and e-mails and puts the onus on consumers to know if a debt collector is breaking the law. Kraninger and her team need to take a look at the logo on their wall and remember that they work for consumers first, not the debt collection industry.”
