Dems Who Voted with GOP to Pass Massive Bank Giveaway Have Taken Nearly $19 Million From Wall Street

Thirty-Three House Democrats Voted for Massive Wall Street Giveaway That Strips Away Consumer and Market Protections Put in Place After the 2008 Economic Collapse

WASHINGTON, D.C. – According to an analysis by consumer watchdog organization Allied Progress, the thirty-three Democrats who joined Republicans yesterday in voting to pass the Senate’s enormous bank giveaway legislation (S.2155) which guts important consumer and market protections put in place following the 2008 economic collapse, have taken nearly $19,000,000 in campaign contributions from Wall Street special interests.

When push came to shove, these Democrats and the Republicans they voted with, took the side of big banks that are making record profits rather than hardworking Americans who are still putting the pieces back together after losing everything in the 2008 economic collapse,” said Karl Frisch, executive director of Allied Progress.

He continued, “Wall Street special interests showered these Democrats with nearly $19 million in campaign cash. If only the average consumers could write a check with that many zeros, maybe then these big bank giveaways would stop and lawmakers would feel compelled to do the right thing.”
