Education Secretary DeVos’ “Closed to Press” Meeting With Student Loan Servicers a Cop Out

Consumer watchdog group Allied Progress director Derek Martin reacted to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ closed-to-press meeting today with executives from the student loan servicer industry purportedly to address “quality assurance and performance” :

“Let’s hope Secretary DeVos’ closed-door meeting with servicers supposedly to address their mutual failures to student borrowers is more than a short-sighted PR stunt following her recent legal troubles. It’s going to take a lot more than that to make up for the Trump Administration’s record of allowing the student loan industrial complex to systematically mistreat and cheat borrowers, free of any consequence.”
