Media Uncovers Evidence Mnuchin “Misled Senate on Foreclosures”

Finance Committee Must Delay Trump Treasury Nominee’s Confirmation Vote Until He Comes Clean to Senators

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Allied Progress released the following statement in response to new findings that President-elect Donald Trump’s Treasury Secretary nominee, Steven Mnuchin, misled the Senate Finance Committee on his bank’s foreclosure practices:

We already knew that Steven Mnuchin made hundreds of millions at the expense of hardworking Americans and their families. Now we know he lied about his bank’s foreclosure practices during the Senate confirmation process. Rather than taking responsibility for the way he profited off kicking people out of their homes, he blatantly deceived members of the U.S. Senate,” said Karl Frisch, Executive Director of Allied Progress.

He continued, “But it’s not surprising that Mnuchin wasn’t truthful about his record, because his record proves he is unfit to be Secretary of the Treasury. Mnuchin has made a career of protecting the rigged economic system that made him wealthy while Americans suffered. His bank was known as a ‘foreclosure machine’ that targeted minorities and the elderly. With these new revelations in Ohio coming to light, tonight’s vote must be delayed until Senators can review the latest findings.”

Karl Frisch is available to speak to members of the media regarding Mnuchin’s confirmation vote. Contact Mike Czin at 202-286-7654 or mczin@skdknick.com.

Last month, Allied Progress launched Trump Transparency Project, an initiative aimed at holding the incoming administration accountable for its economic appointments and policies that will hurt America’s middle class. You can read the project’s profile on Steven Mnuchin here.
