Mulvaney’s New CFPB Chief of Staff Is as Anti-CFPB as They Come
Mulvaney’s New CFPB Chief of Staff Previously Served as Staff Director for Rep. Hensarling’s Anti-CFPB House Financial Services Committee and Before That as a Lobbyist at a Firm That Worked for Big Banks and Anti-Regulation Special Interest Groups
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today it was announced that Kirsten Sutton Mork has left her post as staff director at Rep. Jeb Hensarling’s anti-CFPB House Financial Services Committee to become working as chief of staff for Mick Mulvaney at the CFPB. Prior to joining the staff of Hensarling’s committee charged with overseeing the financial services industry, Sutton Mork was a lobbyist for a firm that worked for banks and anti-regulation special interest groups.
“This is just the latest signal that Mick Mulvaney and Donald Trump have no interest in looking out for everyday American consumers who fall victim to the underhanded practices of big banks, debt collectors and other predatory financial bad actors,” said Karl Frisch, executive director of Allied Progress.
He continued, “Kirsten Sutton Mork has spent much of her career looking out for the interests of big banks and Wall Street heavy hitters – she’ll be no different at the CFPB. She simply can’t be trusted to protect consumers from these extremely powerful special interests.”
Sutton Mork, until recently the Staff Director for the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, has worked under Rep. Hensarling since May 2009. During that time, the committee has waged an all-out war against the CFPB and its efforts to protect consumers. Prior to joining Hensarling’s staff, she worked from 2007 to 2008 as a legislative analyst for the Federal Strategy Group Inc., a lobbying firm that represented the “Coalition Opposed to a Federal Insurance Regulator,” the “Coalition Organized for the Future of Insurance Regulation,” and the First National Bank of Georgia.
