Allied Progress Launches Mobile Billboard to Remind Key Regulators the Sinclair-Tribune Merger is a Bad Deal for Consumers


WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Allied Progress launched a mobile billboard advertising campaign to remind regulators and legislators that the Sinclair-Tribune merger is a bad deal for consumers. The billboard will travel the streets of D.C. until next Tuesday and can be found around Congressional offices, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) headquarters, and the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division. Today it can be seen around the Capitol in advance of a panel discussion on the Sinclair-Tribune merger being hosted at the Capitol Visitor Center.

Tomorrow, the billboard can be found near the FCC headquarters during the commission’s open meeting where they will vote on a number of rule changes, including several that will benefit Sinclair.

“Just in case the ‘must run’ segments airing nine times a week aren’t enough, Washingtonians will be seeing more of Sinclair’s chief propagandist Boris Epshteyn. If regulators at the FCC and DOJ allow this merger to go through, Epshteyn’s pro-Trump commentary will be showing up in three out of four U.S. households,” said Karl Frisch, executive director of Allied Progress.

He continued, “This merger would allow the largest owner of local television stations to monopolize the industry. Giving Sinclair this staggering level of influence would undermine independent media across the country, cheating consumers of independent journalism.”
