UPDATED: Confirmation Hearing for Trump Labor Pick Delayed for 4th Time. What’s Puzder Hiding?
As Labor Nominee’s Confirmation Hearing is Delayed for a Third Fourth Time, Allied Progress Asks, “What’s the Holdup?” – Progressive Group Calls on Puzder and President Trump to Come Clean on Vetting Issue
This is an updated version of the statement Allied Progress put out on January 26th — the last time the Trump administration and Senate Republicans delayed Puzder’s hearing with no meaningful explanation. We will keep updating the same statement every time they delay.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – According to news reports, the Trump administration and Senate Republicans have delayed the confirmation hearing of Labor Secretary nominee Andy Puzder for a third fourth time to February 7 a date not yet determined. Additionally, Puzder has so far refused to provide the requisite paperwork to the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. This despite the White House’s repeated calls for the Senate to move forward with confirmation votes.
In response to these developments, Allied Progress released the following statement from its executive director, Karl Frisch:
“What’s the holdup? Either the rumors are true that Mr. Puzder is no longer interested in the position, or there is a significant vetting issue.” Frisch continued: “It’s long past time for Mr. Puzder to deliver on his commitment to file paperwork with the Senate and let the American people know what issues are causing so many headaches for the Trump administration. We already know of systematic labor violations at his company, misogynistic policies, and other deeply personal issues. It’s clear that whatever Puzder and Trump are hiding, it must be worse than what we already know.”
